Day trio from Fez to Meknes itinerary:

Our day trip from Fez to Meknes starts leaving your hotel at 9 am, we will travel across the Saiss plain to the incredible Roman ruins of Volubilis, the Volubilis of ancient oil mills, mansions, incredible mosaics, monumental arches, and Corinthian columns, where you can get a real sense of Roman life and that of a later medieval Berber city. The House of Orpheus, with its mosaic of the Dauphin and the Myth of Orpheus; the Court of Venus, of which we will only see the exterior, but in which we can contemplate the medallions of Bacchus, Diana, and the Rape of Hylas; the Palace of Gordianus, with its bathhouse and courtyards with pools; the House of the Wild Beast, the House of Orpheus and the House of the Rape of Hylas are in the enclosure.

After leaving Volubilis, we headed along the threatening ridges of the Zerhoun hills towards the holy city of Moulay Idriss, where thousands of Moroccan Muslims come annually to pray at the tomb of this descendant of the Prophet Mohammed during the month of August as part of the annual pilgrimage (museum). Arriving in the vast courtyard, we contemplate the green-tiled pyramids of the Zaouia, flanked by two conical quarters, and then wander through the maze of narrow streets to reach the Imperial City, rebuilt by Moulay Ismail.

Continue to Meknes, the Imperial City (declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site). We will visit the Bab Mansour, the most impressive gate in the entire Maghreb. From here, you will see the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, el-Hedim square, and the famous state stallion stables of Haras, where these Arab-Berber horses are bred, all within walking distance of each other. We will have time for lunch (not included) and leave Meknes at 16:40, returning to the hotel at 18:45 with the drama, immensity, and beauty of the city etched in our minds forever.
